Industrial Chic: A Modern Take on Wardrobe Design

There have been emerging interior design trends and industrial chic has been one of them. the idea of industrial design embodies a sense of an ‘unfinished’ aspect to it and exposure to the routes of it all. For example, if you had a home and you wanted industrial chic, you might avoid putting plaster on the ceiling, having exposed pipes and so forth. While this doesn’t sound like the kind of nice thing people actually want to have, it can be done in a very tasteful and minimalist way that really sings to people.

When I think of industrial styles, I think of lime-washed walls, exposed elements all over the house and neutrals. This is a very modern and I would like to say artistic, way of living and I can really understand why it’s well sought out in this day and age.

Industrial Wardrobes

So you might be curious how to incorporate the industrial aesthetic into more things than the walls and interior design elements; you can actually incorporate it into your wardrobe. If you are like me and love the idea of being able to see all or at least some of your brand new black abaya or range of winter coats out on display to bring in more colour to the room but also so you get to appreciate your pieces a bit more.

An industrial wardrobe essentially is a skeleton of a traditional wardrobe, but it can incorporate some closed spaces like drawers here and there but the vocal points are the areas that are exposed here. you will be able to see your belongings hanging, stacked or folded depending on which design you go for. You will also be able to see metalwork; it’s a great way to add something different to your wardrobe space.

There are many reasons why an individual might want some elements of industrial into their living and wardrobe space and here are a few of my favourites.

Benefits of an Industrial Wardrobe

Easy Access

With a traditional wardrobe, you might have to open a few cupboards here and there but with an industrial style, you can simply see exactly where your item is from afar and just grab it off the rail. It allows you to keep an eye on your clothes location but also makes dressing and deciding what to wear a little easier.

Display

Some people absolutely love their fashion, so it makes sense that you want these pieces out on display in some form or another. I personally love being able to see my clothes; they are full of memories and I have spent a lot of money on them so it seems right they can have their own moment.

Encourages Tidiness

Industrial wardrobes keep you accountable for your hoarding and mess that you accumulate, as there is not as much space to shove a bunch of things in. You are more accountable for everything, which encouraged me to be a lot more tidy and appreciate my things and prevented me from keeping things I didn’t appreciate any more that could be by someone else.

Versatility and Adaptability

As industrial wardrobes aren’t fitted with specific coloured doors or designs, there is a lot of interior design freedom available, so if you want to change the aesthetic every week, you could and your industrial wardrobe would fit in each and every time. This makes it a great option if you are renovating and not sure how you are going to design the room; it’s very inexpensive and can be adapted with drawers and fittings in the future if that’s what you wish to do.

Eco-friendly Considerations

Some industrial wardrobes are made from recycled materials so while you will be reaping all of the rewards of incorporating this new style into your space, you will also be doing it environmentally consciously rather than buying products that have used freshly cut and made products. Ways that you can be more sustainable and environmentally friendly are very rewarding.

Durability and longevity

While many wardrobes last a lifetime, there is little to no risk of damaging an industrial wardrobe. They tend to look rustic and vintage naturally but as they are a skeleton of materials such as metal and wood, they can withstand daily use and last for a very long time.

The sturdy construction provides ample support for your clothes and accessories, preventing deformation.

Final Thoughts

Overall, industrial wardrobes offer a combination of style, customisation, functionality and durability, which at the end of the day is exactly what we want from our wardrobes.

For those who appreciate an interior design style that emphasizes authenticity and the beauty of raw materials, an industrial wardrobe can be the perfect choice. This style not only brings in a distinctive look but also encourages a mindful approach to personal belongings.
